BROTHERS OF THE SONIC CLOTH: Seattle Doom Trio Confirm West Coast Tour

Seattle’s BROTHERS OF THE SONIC CLOTH -- featuring legendary guitarist/vocalist Tad Doyle, formerly of Tad and Hog Molly, veteran bassist Peggy Doyle and drummer Dave French (The Anunnaki) -- will bring their apocalyptic tidings to the streets next month for a long-anticipated run of West Coast performances. Slated to launch on May 21st on their home turf of Seattle, the trek will quake eight stages through May 30th in Boise and follows the trio’s previously announced record release show at The Columbia City Theater in Seattle with additional live dates to be broadcast in the weeks to come.

Comments Doyle, “After having done our first U.S. West Coast tour back in 2012, we are stoked to be able to bring our songs out on the road once again to a town near you. We look forward to seeing our friends and making new ones as we trudge the highways with 1,500 filthy watts of amplification and drums big enough to be heard from the other side of a mountain range."

BROTHERS OF THE SONIC CLOTH will be deafening the masses with psalms off their self-titled debut, unleashed in February via Neurot Recordings. Captured at Robert Lang Studios and Doyle’s own Witch Ape Studio and mixed by Billy Anderson (Sleep, High On Fire, Melvins et al), Brothers Of The Sonic Cloth serves as Doyle’s first recorded release in nearly fifteen years. Splicing thick, jagged riffs through chilling post-punk drumming and hulking compositions that blow soulfully hot and desolately cold, sometimes within the confines of one track, BROTHERS OF THE SONIC CLOTH is the sound of earthly decomposition and planetary ruin; a slow, suffocating, spellbinding dance towards a looming apocalypse. The record continues to earn critical applause globally for its sonic enormity with Invisible Oranges insisting, “it will be very difficult for any band to release a better album than this one in 2015,” further elaborating, “The glacially paced ‘Empires Of Dust’ evokes Monotheist-era Celtic Frost with some post-punk elements, while ‘Unnamed’ imagines a world where the Melvins play black metal… Like the most iconic albums, this one reveals hidden nuances and elements with every listen.” In an 8/10 review of the record, Decibel Magazine issues, “The Bros.’ debut lurches to life with a lumbering, grunge-influenced tune, “Lava”… From here, things slow down to funeral doom pace for much of the next six tracks/35 minutes. However, the doom and darkness is shaded with some interesting melodic textures and moments of lightness that come at unexpected times and add a dynamic gravity to the material.” NPR observes, “Doyle’s ears must have absorbed the past decade of heavy where the quiet-to-ear-splitting-loud dynamic dominated, but like his Pacific Northwest brothers in YOB, there is purpose in its movement,” while The Obelisk gushes, “Tad leads the charge through seven rounds of atmospheric post-sludge, the record’s 44 minutes no less concerned with ambience and mood than with gritting their teeth and bashing the listener over the head with waves of tectonic nod.“

Sample BROTHERS OF THE SONIC CLOTH’s “Unnamed,” still streaming at NPR at THIS LOCATION, “La Mano Poderosa” heavying up the airwaves of Classic Rock at THIS LOCATION and “Lava,” still crushing Decibel HERE.

“After 15 years of relative silence, it’s good to have Tad Doyle back and in such fine form. God’s balls, This is heavy shit.” – MusicOMH

Brothers Of The Sonic Cloth Available now at Store.NeurotRecordings.com

“The cover says it all: a molten sun cannonballs into a blackened landscape, spraying lava as it careers into finality… From the first chord, Brothers Of The Sonic Cloth demand that the volume dial go up as far as you can get it. A range of musical forms lurch out of the speakers – at times some of the riffs head toward Sunn O))) territory, or the Melvins at their most molasses-thick, but there’s none of the disinterest in rocking out that some denizens of guitar music’s outer reaches can sometimes exhibit.” – Digital Fix

“The riffs and rhythm section are hypnotic. There is nothing short or sweet about this album. Most of the songs are quite long and sound lovingly like chainsaws dipped in tar. Some of the best stoner metal to come out in some time.” – Glacially Musical

“If you’ve ever wondered what might have happened if The Pixies had turned into flesh-eating zombies right after they released Surfer Rosa, your wait is over. Because they probably would have sounded likeBROTHERS OF THE SONIC CLOTH.” – Echoes And Dust

“…so tasty, it’ll have you unashamedly coming back for seconds, and thirds, and fourths, and dessert, and a cheese course, and just one tiny little wafer thin mint...” – Drowned In Sound

Scott Kelly's family can use your help during this difficult time. His wife, Sarah, has been hospitalized for the last week with an undiagnosed but completely disabling condition.

 Kelly Family Fund

Sarah woke up on Tuesday March 24th unable to walk or see. She was immediately admitted to Rogue Regional Medical Center in Medford, OR. As of today, (Sunday March 29th), the doctors are still not able to identify an exact diagnosis. Currently, her eyes have gotten significantly better but she is still not able to walk. She has begun rehabbing in the hospital, but it's slow going.

While most people know Scott from his work with his bands (Neurosis, Tribes of Neurot, Corrections House, etc...), his most cherished role is that of a father and husband. As he stays close to Sarah at this time, medical bills and every day living costs are building. A fundrasier has been set up HERE . Please help where you can, spread the word of this fundraiser and please keep Sarah in your thoughts.

UFOMAMMUT Streaming Ecate At Decibel Magazine; Album Out Via Neurot Recordings Next Week As International Touring Begins; Sixth Making-Of Video Installment Posted

Italy’s masters of torrential, psychedelic, audio/visual, doom metal decimation, UFOMAMMUT, will see the release of their seventh LP, Ecate, through the gates from their plane of existence into ours — through Neurosis’ mighty label cult, Neurot Recordings, in conjunction with the band’s own Supernatural Cat Records — on Tues. March 31st (US), Mon. March 30th (UK/EU) and Fri. March 27th (GER).

Mere days after the official unveiling of Ecate, UFOMAMMUT begins a European tour with Conan in support of the album for nearly the entire month of April, including appearances at both of this year’s Desertfest events in London and Berlin. Several days later, the band will traverse the globe to embark on their first North American tour, with direct support from Usnea, including the band’s debut at Maryland Deathfest.

Decibel Magazine has found a wormhole into UFOMAMMUT’s otherworldly dimension, and is showcasing a glimpse into Ecate’s confounding passages early, the album unloading a denser and more upbeat attack, taking the band’s cosmic, psychedelic tones to some of their most devastating capabilities yet. Additionally, the sixth of seven video episodes capturing these tacticians corralling their powers into a recordable format is also released.

Open the gates to UFOMAMMUT’s Ecate and view the new making-of video at THIS LOCATION.

Steve Von Till Reveals the Title Track From His Striking New Solo Album, 'A Life Unto Itself,' Upcoming on Neurot Recordings in May

Today we can proudly reveal the first audible insight into Steve Von Till's striking new solo record, A Life Unto Itself via The Quietus who have unveiled the title track.

_____________________________

LISTEN TO THE TITLE TRACK 'A LIFE UNTO ITSELF' HERE

_____________________________

A Life Unto Itself ventures into compelling uncharted territory for its maker. Steve Von Till's weathered, distinctive voice and sparse acoustic guitar provides a foundation, but a much wider variety of sonic textures are presented here. Bold and ambitious arrangements weave vintage synth, sublime strings, percussion, and electric guitars in and out of these unique and expansive songs as Steve Von Till's raspy whisper dives deeply inward and speaks genuinely of visions, memories, and self-reflection in a way that feels both seasoned and exposed.

In creating the album’s myriad textures, Von Till was assisted by viola master Eyvind Kang, pedal steel wizard J. Kardong and percussionist Pat Schowe, all under the supervision of engineer and producer Randall Dunn, with whom he recorded and mixed the album at Avast! Recording Co. in Seattle. Von Till and his fellow travelers take the listener on a pilgrimage through hidden inner worlds, occasionally surfacing for brief sojourns through the American West (“In Your Wings”), Old World Europe (“A Language of Blood”) and more modern points unknown (“Night of the Moon”).

The songs are informed by a worldview that attempts to peer beyond the veil of the physical world and recognise the symbols and messages that often go unnoticed. “When you make a big life decision and then you hear a raven’s call out in the sky, it wasn’t chance—it was an affirmation, it was meant for you, even if that might seem ridiculous in a conventional sense,”Von Till offers by way of example. “When you hear a melody and it takes you back a thousand years to a memory you’re not even sure you were a part of. When folklore and history become ways of how you see the world, it allows things to become more mystical and take on deeper meaning. When you’re walking through ordinary, mundane situations, you have this frame of reference that takes on great personal significance beyond surviving the day-to-day: It’s surviving the day-to-day with meaning.”

IDES OF GEMINI will be touring in support of their critically championed, Chris Rakestraw (Danzig)-produced Old World New Wave full-length released in September via Neurot Recordings. Featuring nine dark, absorbing soundscrapes, the record continues to reap approval from fans and critics alike. Bearded Gentlemen Music dubs the record “…an enjoyable dream-doom filled sonic journey from start to finish,” while Noisey notes, “…there’s enough droney doom on [Old World New Wave] to make you feel like you’re stuck in David Lynch’s dreams.” Invisible Oranges boasts, “IDES OF GEMINI has a knack for atmosphere, for creating a world of sound and inviting the listener in. Their music has the feel of a classic horror film: all psychology, no fake blood or cheap startles. If there’s a goth revival afoot in metal culture — and, given last year’s releases by In Solitude, Beastmilk and others, there’s certainly an argument to be made for that — then IDES OF GEMINI is among its most evocative front-runners.” Adds Decibel, “A stark blend of black metal-derived guitar riffs, rigid, martial beats, and the haunting, gothic vocal harmonies of bassist Sera Timms and drummer Kelly Johnston-Gibson, this album washes over the listener, feeling simultaneously comforting and unsettling. Better yet, there are moments that see the band exploring more hook-oriented material… which makes you wonder just how much the band’s 2013 tour with Ghost B.C. had an effect on them.”

IDES OF GEMINI features guitarist J. Bennett, drummer Kelly Johnston-Gibson and the evocative vocal prowess of singer/bassist Sera Timms, also of West Coast dark-psych conjurors Black Mare.

Old World New Wave is out NOW on CD and digitally via Neurot Recordings and on vinyl via SIGE Records. For CD orders, point your browser HERE and for T-shirt bundles, point your browser to THIS LOCATION.

YOB will be touring in support of their critically-adored Clearing The Path To Ascend full-length, released early last Fall via Neurot Recordings. Recorded at Gung Ho Studio in Eugene alongside longtime YOB comrade/iconic sound wizard, Billy Barnett and mastered by Brad Boatright (Sleep, Beastmilk, Nails) at Audiosiege, Clearing The Path To Ascend has earned the praise of major media outlets globally, including Rolling Stone who placed the record at the coveted #1 spot on their 20 Best Metal Albums Of 2014.

“The seventh album from Oregon doom metal sky-gazers, YOB … makes perfect bedfellows of volume and beauty, pain and transcendence.” – Rolling Stone

“Mike Scheidt’s songwriting has never been stronger or more dynamic… a masterful return to form by an American doom powerhouse” – Decibel
“Clearing The Path To Ascend is YOB at their most frenzied (‘Nothing To Win’) as well as their gentlest (‘Marrow’), but taken as whole, its four songs feel like the seasons or the elements: powerful, eternal, wondrous, and bigger than all of us.” – Stereogum
“An absolute monument of musicianship, songcraft, and raw emotion…” – Free Williamsburg
“The sound on Clearing The Path To Ascend is tactile: You can practically feel vocalist/guitarist Mike Scheidt’s callused hands sliding up and down the guitar neck…This isn’t a case of fixing what was broken; it’s about becoming greater than they already were.” – Wondering Sound
“For all its heaviness, the album is disarmingly meditative, relying less on forcing the mood for the listener and entrusting that the human commonalities of love, loss, fear, and hope threaded throughout the music will render an altogether familiar place of comfort and strength within the listener.” – Steel For Brains

UFOMAMMUT Releases Track From New LP And Interview Through Several Global Branches Of Noisey; Fifth Making-Of Ecate Video Released + Preorders Posted

In a multi-nation takeover, multiple international branches of Vice Magazine’s music channel, Noisey, have cooperatively premiered “Plouton,” the gargantuan second movement on UFOMAMMUT’s impending seventh LP, Ecate. In addition to leak of the new track, the fifth installment of short videos documenting the mammoth undertaking of the Ecate recording sessions has been posted, focusing on the album’s vocals being harnessed, and preorder packages for the mighty record have also been activated.

As with the rest of Ecate, “Plouton” is a bit varied from the majority of UFOMAMMUT’s vast recorded catalog, the album unloading a more dense and upbeat percussive and riffage attack, taking the band’s cosmic, psychedelic tones to some of their most devastating capabilities in the band’s now decade-and-a-half-long mission. At just over three minutes in length, “Plouton” consumes only a fractional amount of time compared to most of their extensive doom/sludge anthems, but helps create a distressing amount of tension early in the album which uncoils and consumes everything in earshot over the subsequent tracks. Spearheaded by Noisey’s Brazilian sect, the magazine’s American, British and Italian branches have also joined the mission to help disseminate the premiere of “Plouton” to as much of the globe as possible. The track is joined by an interview with the band on the creation of Ecate and their upcoming international tour plans following the album’s release, once again through Neurosis’ mighty label cult, Neurot Recordings, in conjunction with the band’s own Supernatural Cat Records.
